Principles of our work
Over the past twenty years at DESY, various rules and regulations regarding equality and equal opportunities have arisen. These continue to apply.

- BGleiG
This regulatory framework is based on the Gender Equality in Federal Government and Federal Companies and Courts Act (BGleiG) of 30.11.01, amended 07.08.2021.
- Equal opportunities implementation agreement
The Promotion of equal opportunities in the Enactment of the Implementation Agreement on equal opportunities (DESY Implementation Agreement) aims to ensure the implementation of the AV-Glei at DESY.
- AV-Glei
The Implementation Agreement re. GWK Accord on Gender Equality in the Joint Development of Research (Av-Glei) of 27.10.08, revised 22.4.16, states that, as agreed by the Joint Scientific Conference (GWK), the principles of BGleiG shall also apply to research institutes that receive joint national and regional funding.
- Company regulations for equal opportunities for women at DESY
In the company regulations for equal opportunities for women at DESY of 11.11.97, amended 26.4.07 and 1.7.16, the development of female staff by the directorate and the employees' council is recognised as being a vital part of HR policy.
- Joint declaration on equality of opportunity for men and women at DESY
The joint declaration on equality of opportunity for men and women as issued by the directorate and the employees' councils of Hamburg and Zeuthen on 11.11.17 is primarily concerned with applications from female candidates and the wording of recruitment advertisements, as well as with efforts being made with regard to female representation in the sciences and technology.
- PEP
The aim of the personnel development plan equality of opportunity at DESY (PEP) is to ensure equal participation in life at DESY by both women and men.
- Company regulations
The company regulations of the Equal Opportunities Officer and the Women’s Representative govern the general rules for organisational and operational processes for the Hamburg and Zeuthen sites.
- Gender equality plan DESY
The proportion of women at DESY in science and technical professions is, with about 25% and 15% respectively, far below the desired goal of equal representation. Therefore, DESY urgently needs a gender equality plan that defines binding goals. DESY's second Gender Equality Plan (GLP) has been developed and agreed.
The second gender equality plan of DESY became effective on 01.01.2024 and has a term of four years.
